James "Jim" Melson was born on February 26th, 1935 in Philadelphia PA. His parents were Annna Pass Melson and Walter F. Melson of Watercress springs, New Hope PA. He spent his childhood in New Hope and graduated from New Hope Solebury High School where he met and married the love of his life, Judith Eichlin. A Korean War veteran, he served in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1957 as a flight engineer. If you were lucky enough to have known Jim, you were blessed. He poured his heart and soul into his business, Melson's Service Center which he began in 1966 in New Hope. He valued every customer who walked in the door. Jim enabled his business to thrive throughout the years. His children operate the "station" today. Nothing was impossible in Jim's eyes. He could do anything or figure out how to do it. During his life Jim had many hobbies which included hunting, painting, and woodworking. His creativity was a gift that he used in every project he took on. He made many pieces of art including bird houses, walking sticks, and hand carved wooden boxes and paintings that he gave to family and friends over the years. He wanted to give a piece of himself to everyone, and he did just that.
Today, Melson's Service Center is operated by 4 siblings: Jane, Tony, Tom, and Jim. Each of us grew up around the family business admiring our father's work ethic and commitment to his customers. We're proud to carry on that legacy and, grateful to the New Hope community for decades of patronage. We will always strive earnestly to provide the highest quality automotive services that our neighbors and friends have relied on for generations.
